WEEKEND AQUATICS TEAM MEMBER
Saturday & Sunday | Birchwood Aquatic Centre
We’re looking for an experienced, knowledgeable and confident fishkeeper to join our team at Birchwood Aquatic Centre, working both Saturdays and Sundays.
This is a customer-facing role during our busiest days of the week, so we’re looking for someone who combines strong aquatic knowledge – particularly marine fishkeeping – with excellent people skills.
THE ROLE
• Saturdays & Sundays – please do apply if you can only work 1 day
• National Living Wage
• Staff discount
• Full training on our shop procedures and systems
• Working across our livestock and dry goods departments, with a particular focus on marine
MARINE KNOWLEDGE IS IMPORTANT
We are particularly interested in someone with good practical marine fishkeeping experience.
You should already be comfortable discussing subjects such as:
• Marine fish compatibility and stocking
• Water quality and parameters
• Filtration and equipment
• Feeding and general fish health
• Setting up and maintaining marine aquariums
• Giving customers sensible, responsible advice
Knowledge of tropical freshwater, pond and general aquatics would be a big advantage too.
This isn’t a role where you need to know absolutely everything – none of us do! – but you will need a good existing level of practical aquatic knowledge and the confidence to advise customers.
JUST AS IMPORTANT – YOU NEED TO BE GOOD WITH PEOPLE
Our weekends are busy, and a huge part of this role is customer service.
We’re looking for someone who is friendly, approachable, confident and comfortable starting conversations with customers, finding out what they need and helping them make the right choices.
You’ll need to be happy approaching customers rather than waiting to be asked, explaining things clearly and working as part of a busy team.
Previous retail experience would be helpful, but strong customer service skills, personality and aquatic knowledge are much more important to us.
