Weekend Aquatics Assistant (Saturday and/or Sunday)
Location: Birchwood Aquatic Centre, Swanley, Kent
Contract: Temporary – until end of September (with potential to extend)
Hours: Weekend role – Saturday and/or Sunday (hours to be agreed)
About the Role
Birchwood Aquatic Centre is a specialist aquatic retailer offering tropical, marine and pond livestock alongside a wide range of aquarium and pond equipment.
We are looking for a Weekend Aquatics Assistant to support the team during our busiest period of the year. This is a temporary role through to the end of September, with the possibility of extension depending on business needs.
This position is ideal for someone with existing fishkeeping knowledge who enjoys helping customers and working in a specialist retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Helping care for and maintain our livestock including tropical, marine and pond fish.
- Assisting customers with advice on tropical, marine and pond fishkeeping
- Helping customers select suitable livestock and equipment
- Safely catching and bagging fish for sale
- Maintaining aquariums and tanks including basic cleaning, feeding and water checks
- Assisting with livestock deliveries and stock organisation
- Keeping the shop clean, tidy and well-presented
- Supporting the team during busy periods and weekends
- Using the till system to process customer purchases (training provided)
Essential Requirements
- Some fishkeeping knowledge (tropical, marine or pond)
- Friendly and confident dealing with customers
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable working in a busy retail environment
- Willing to get hands-on with livestock and aquarium maintenance
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience working in an aquatic shop or pet retail
- Knowledge of aquarium equipment, filtration and water quality
- Experience catching and handling fish
- General retail or customer service experience
Contract Details
- Temporary contract until 30th September 2026
- Potential for extension depending on shop demand
- Weekend shifts (Saturday 9.30am-6pm and/or Sunday 10am-5pm)
- Pay dependent on age
