With its dark brown to black shell and slow, deliberate movements, this fascinating species adds both character and natural interest to freshwater aquariums.

Origin:
Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar, Brotia pagodula inhabits flowing rivers and streams with rocky substrates.

Feeding:
Omnivorous grazer. Feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and leftover fish food. Supplement with algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini or spinach to ensure a balanced diet.

Tank / Setup Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 40 litres (10 gallons)

  • Provide rocks, driftwood, and surfaces for grazing

  • Sand or smooth substrate preferred

  • Moderate water flow and good oxygenation recommended

Tank Mates:
Suitable for peaceful community aquariums with non-aggressive fish and other invertebrates. Avoid species that may prey on snails.

Behaviour:
Peaceful and slow-moving. Spends most of its time grazing on algae and biofilm across surfaces in the aquarium.

Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy when kept in stable water conditions with sufficient food and calcium for shell health.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
